The Old Station, Tintern

The Old Station Tintern is situated in the Wye Valley - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), 9km north of CHEPSTOW on A466 (S0 536 006). The site is owned and managed by Monmouthshire County Council Countryside Section and was opened as a Countryside Visitor Centre in 1975.

There are three railway carriages on site. Two new carriages arrived in early 2010 and these contain a souvenir and gift shop, a “Destination Wye Valley” exhibition area with information about the heritage of the Wye Valley to interest all the family, a tourist information point and a meeting room. The third, smaller carriage houses railway memorabilia and a scale model of the station circa 1930’s.

The site is ideal for relaxing and enjoying a picnic or for using one of the 3 barbecues available on site. In the Old Station building you can enjoy a variety of home made cakes, light lunches and freshly ground Fair Trade coffee and a selection of tea infusions. For younger visitors there is also a well-equipped play area.

The carriages, toilets, and tea room are open every day from April to the end of  October; the site itself can be used throughout the year. The tea room opens at weekends from the end of October to Christmas.

Bus number 69 passes the entrance.
