King Arthur

King Arthur, man of legend and history whose identity has long been debated.

According to some historians he may be identified with Arthuruis ap Meurig ap Tewdrig and was a hereditary king of the Silures who inhabited South east Wales.  The name Arthur is derived from Arthwur which was the title given to a great war leader, indicating that he was strong and powerful, just like a bear.

It is significant that Winston Churchill in his "History of the English Speaking Peoples" stated that; "It is reasonably certain that a petty chieftain named Arthur did exist, probably in South Wales".
