“The Circle of Legends” is situated at the Old Station in Tintern.

It consists of six wooden, life sized sculptures (5 made from oak and 1 from sweet chestnut) depicting  6 mystical or historical characters from Monmouthshire’s past. Commissioned by the Monmouthshire County Council Countryside Service, they were created by sculptors Neil Gow and John Hobbs over an 18 month period between 2002 and 2003 and were partly funded by the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Six trails have been devised by the Countryside Service to take you out into the beautiful county of Monmouthshire where you can discover more about the characters and the areas with which they had links.

On site display boards and a DVD in one of the railway carriages tell you about the characters and their trails. Click on the name of the characters above to find out more about their backgrounds and their trails.  Copies of the DVD by Ken Bucknall are available in one of the carriages.

The interpretation of the trails was part funded by the Countryside Council for Wales.
